by the time we had to leave for the dentist appointment, this little girl was pumped up and excited. when we first walked into the sunshine dental in woodlands civic center, we were greated by what i can only describe as a child’s paradise. there was a brightly painted children's play corner loaded with toys and books. alexis took off as soon as we walked in to explore.
this girl handled her first visit of the year to the dentist like a champ. her dentist, doctor yeo, explained to her what she was doing and showed her all the tools. she showed alexis the mirror, her tooth counter (the pick thing) and counted her fingers with them, the water spray (she put some water in her hand), and the straw that sucks (it sucked up the water in her hand). next she showed alexis the cleaning tool. dr yeo allows alexis to feel the spinning bristles on her hand. afterwards she told alexis she wanted to look at her teeth and count them.
alexis sat in my lap with her head leaning back on my chest and had her teeth counted, brushed with her new toothbrush, and had a fluoride treatment applied. dr yeo explained everything, talked about silly things with her and we got through the entire session with entirely no resistance and tears. best of all — no cavities :) maybe due to the fact that alexis eats very few sweets and does not drink juice.
now, we are so proud of our little girl. this visit went way better than expected, and she cannot wait to go back. dr yeo did such a great job with alexis and i was so grateful for that. she made her feel relaxed, they had a lot of fun together and she left sunshine dental with pearly whites in tip top shapes :)
