our xmas dinner @home :)

a baby santa with a big tummy

a pretty christmas eve out with junior, and off we went in search for her first christmas pressie. she was very good, except that she has issue controlling her fart.

something to commemorate her first xmas, something that she can keep for life.
pressie left unwrapped, hoping for the day she can tear open the wrapping paper :)

merry first christmas, baby dumbo
- with love, papa & mommy

all i want for xmas

fast forward 4 years 8 months and 1 week, and here we are: happy, together, everyday.

reconciling three diametrically different personalities and characters certainly hasn't been a bed of roses, nor have we ever expected it to be so.

but working together for one other has helped us grow so much; stronger, closer, more content.

all the love overload. thank you both for these (:
merry christmas, my dearests.

rest if you must, but don't cry

her eyelids are so heavy that if you let her head rest for like a split second on a flat surface, she'll fall asleep :)

sacrifice

"Sacrifice is a part of life. It’s supposed to be.
It’s not something you regret. It’s something to aspire to.
Little sacrifices. Big sacrifices.
A mother works so her son can go to school.
A daughter moves home to care of her sick father…

Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you’re not really losing it.
You’re just passing it on to someone else.”

- The Five People You Meet In Heaven, Mitch Albom

a happy injection!

i stared at the plaster and i wondered why does a baby need so many injections.
oh wells, junior is a brave warrior for the day!

do i need to say more?
cry-less! tearless! :))

on a side note, 54cm junior is now 4.7 kilo @ 8 weeks.
mommy angel gonna have strong arms.

thoughts on a friday night

so, i have been parenting for 1 month and 20 days.

it was a big jump from single to attached, from darling dear's wife to junior's mommy.
it was tough - from learning to accept, to knowing them by heart, to be able to love, to everything else.

i might not be the best wife and mommy around, i might had lose my direction in the midst of all these,
but, i'm glad i'm still in this :)

angel is a pillow

papa-ang learnt that when junior is sleepy and crying crankily, it is just informing him that she wants her mommy.

counting down to another happy family day

the thing why i love carrier to a pram: keeping junior close to my heart - literally.

my life as mommy

one thing that parenting ever taught me,
to cry, angry, laugh and love at the same time :)))

to protect junior's brain, turn off the tv

By Brandon Keim, wired.com

A decade ago, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggested that parents limit TV consumption by children under two years of age. The recommendations were based as much on common sense as science, because studies of media consumption and infant development were themselves in their infancy.

The research has finally grown up. And though it’s still ongoing, it’s mature enough for the AAP to release a new, science-heavy policy statement on babies watching television, videos or any other passive media form.

Their verdict: It’s not good, and probably bad.

Media, whether playing in the background or designed explicitly as an infant educational tool, has "potentially negative effects and no known positive effects for children younger than 2 years,” concluded the AAP’s report, released Oct. 18 at the Academy’s annual meeting in Boston and scheduled for November publication in the journal Pediatrics. “Although infant/toddler programming might be entertaining, it should not be marketed as or presumed by parents to be educational.”

Since the AAP made its original recommendations in 1999, passive entertainment screens—televisions, DVD players, computers streaming video—have become ubiquitous, and the average 12-month-old gets between one and two hours of screen time per day. (Interactive screens, such as iPads and other tablets, are considered in the new recommendations.) The 0- to 2-year age group has become a prime target for commercial educational programming, often used by parents convinced that it’s beneficial.

As screens proliferated, so did research. “There have been about 50 studies that have come out on media use by children in this age group between 1999 and now,” said Ari Brown, a pediatrician and member of the AAP committee that wrote the new report.

Those studies have found that children don’t really understand what’s happening on a screen until they’re about 2 years old. Once they do, media can be good for them, but until then television is essentially a mesmerizing, glowing box.

Used at night, TV might help kids fall asleep, but that appears to come at a delayed cost of subsequent sleep disturbances and irregularities. While the result of TV-induced sleep problems hasn’t been directly studied, poor sleep in infants is generally linked to problems with mood, behavior and learning.

At other times, media consumption comes with opportunity costs, foremost among them the silence of parents. “While television is on, there’s less talking, and talk time is very important in language development,” said Brown.

Three studies since 1999 have tracked educational television use and language development, and they found a link between increased TV time and developmental delays. Whether that’s a cause or effect—parents who leave kids in front of televisions might simply be poor teachers—isn’t clear, nor are the long-term effects, but the AAP called the findings “concerning.” In the same vein, there may also be a link to attention problems.

Even when media plays in the background, it distracts babies from play, an activity that is known to have deep developmental benefits. And for parents who use media to carve out a few precious, necessary free minutes in busy schedules, Brown recommended letting kids entertain themselves.

“We know you can’t spend 24 hours a day reading to your child and playing with them. That’s okay. What’s also okay is your child playing independently,” she said. “That’s valuable time. They’re problem-solving. They’re using their imagination, thinking creatively and entertaining themselves.”

As for iPads and other kid-friendly interactive computing devices, Brown said research has barely started, much less come to conclusions. But she counseled skepticism of promotional claims, which have been made with some of the same zeal as products of now-dubious standing, such as the controversial Baby Einstein videos.

“The way these kids’ programs came out was, ‘These are really educational! They’re going to help your kids learn!’ Well that’s great, but prove it. Show me the science,” Brown said. “I don’t have a problem with touch screens, and they’re not necessarily bad. But we need to understand how this affects kids.”

we have decided that it is important to develop good habits since the day she was born. it is essential to protect her brain, but it is more important to not let her become a couch potato. in other words, AAP guidelines are going to be on the top of our list. try.

as working parents, it is gonna be more convenient to have junior place in front of the tv or ipad. but as junior's parents, i believe it's most important to build a understanding relationship with her. in other words, we need to talk to her, play with her, cuddle her and the list goes on, and when we are lucky, junior tireds out faster than us!

yes, you can say that i am being sucha ordinary follower and darling dear is such an old school. but, the relationship we had built with junior doesn't come overnight. it takes a lot. and sometimes, fate plays a part too. so, this is one of the reason why i have been contemplating about moving back to the states for another two years. but, we will see.

tv or no tv,
it's still too soon to tell.

dad is full of bones

why is a 5 week old kiddo so fussy about where to lie on?
now, the mommy is not so irritated by her meaty figure.

play moments

they once said:
life kicks you around sometimes. it scares you and beats you up, but there’s a day when you realize you’re not just a survivor, but you’re a warrior. you're tougher than anything it throws your way.

life is wonderful, even with all the silly stunts you get from papa along the way.

unlocked a lifetime of happiness

it's been a very hectic, but very fulfilling month.
it's tired me out completely,
but has also provided me with so many wonderful memories which i would keep close to my heart.

i guess this month has been a breakthrough month for me - spiritually, physically, and mentally.

i've been so blessed with a wonderful darling dear whom i feel i'd known for a lifetime.
he tolerates my nonsense and all my weird philosophies.
he tolerates me being weak and lousy when i'm not feeling my best,
he encourages me to wear dresses which i never thought i'll be able to fit in,
he says i love you all the time not just to kill time but because i know he really meant it,
and he actually can stand my ridiculous eating habits.

here's a big shoutout of love to you with such big heart,
i love you, with all my heart. :))

not a chore

today is one of those days where i had to mop the floor while pacifying a crying junior. suddenly i thought, "am I crazy to find such joy in such days?!"

my answer is, "wells, life now seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. i'm loving it. definitely."

this kind of times assured me that i still have my motherly moments :)

i am a macaron-addict

i'm missing my macarons,

i'm really happy

everything seems to be going well, finally (:

i can't thank you enough for being there everyday. the baby languages that we have with each other, the loud cries that you make, always makes our night get better. you are like a dream catcher, sent to take away all the bad dreams and make us smile through sleep.

love me!

no matter how many new people i meet along the way, how easy they are to hang out with, how many places i go, at the end of the day, i just want to be with the person who makes me laugh the most. the person who wouldn't judge me from the 1001th mistakes i've made and who understands why i do, what i do.

alexis...

happy 4 weeks old.

breathe deep. the one month has come to an end. you are 4 weeks older, your heart is 4 weeks stronger, your bones are 4 weeks tougher. it had been a looong 28 days and finally the torturous so-called confinement is over!

i'm dreaming of life in states

i finally made my feelings known.
okie, couple more days to freedom and more bonding times :)

and i haven't been myself lately, brainfreezes and frostbites.
trying hard not to be insane.

the little things that makes the difference

would you sacrifice your sleep for this smile?
i will.

finally celebrating as a mommy

happy 28th to me.

this year is different of course, with a 2+ weeks old baby and confining myself at home. for that one instance, i sort of miss my pre-motherhood days. well, just a tiny little but i'm accustomed to the fact that, being a mommy comes with responsibilities, making that choice, it means i should be ready to shift away from my comfort zone. if i have already made that choice, i have to banish whatever negative emotions that may come along with it but i have been enjoying my motherhood thus far.

so my birthday celebration starts at 2.30am with a mini cake bought from the confectionary bakery downstairs. darling dear got junior to say happy birthday to me but only greeted with a "mmm...", but that good enough! :))

what a feeling..

it is to be junior's mommy.

these days, i've been trying hard to perform the role of a mommy, a good mommy in fact. from learning to breastfeed to changing diaper, bathing and getting to know junior more, everyday is just a learning process :D

Sunday, November 13, 2011

night feeding

every night we only had a couple hours of sleep. and i doubt we will be sleeping long tonight again. but with all the smiles i'm getting from her, everything is just worth it.

communicate. words. speak. connect. feel.

communication is the very essence to any kinds of relationship. to simply put it, communication is the very fundamental law of the universe for people to connect, to convey a message(s) correctly and to put your feelings across to people you care. without communication, obviously, that would lead to misunderstandings.

don't you find it funny? as children, we learn the alphabets. we learn how to spell and we learn how to communicate with people. we learn everything we possibly can to talk to someone. however, as we grow up, we know the basics and the importance of communication yet, most of the times, when something happens, because of certain reasons (fear, disappointment awkwardness), we tend to shy away from trying to communicate with the other party to work something out. we forgot how to use the words or the words we want to speak, they somehow get stuck between the teeth and the lips. those words never get delivered, messages never get conveyed, we never get to clear the misunderstandings.

on a side note:

- junior is diagnosed juandice-free yesterday and her weight rises from 2.6 to 2.8! now, papa happy, mommy happy and junior is happy! :D
- i left with 1.5 kilos to my pre-pregnancy weight :))

3 years of beautiful

that's how i look at it. 3 years of something really spectacular. we weren't perfect. there were dark days and days that i thought the sun couldn't compare to us. we were this work of fate that turned into a bond that couldn't be denied, only loved and cherished. our 3 years of beautiful are worth an eternity of memories, and the friendship that comes out of being that to someone, should never be lost. so know from here that i still love you, that i would always do anything for you and a large piece of my heart will always be yours. 3 years of beautiful, really beautiful. thank you for our little creation, thank you for those.

happy 3 years wedding anniversary, my darling dear.

❤ you.

what a feeling

parenthood is such an amazing journey. we are now officially parents and could not be more in love. i cannot begin to describe how much we love our junior and would definitely go through all the pain and heartache again if i knew the ending was such a special little girl. i can still hardly believe that we were blessed with such a miracle and appreciate every single moment i have with her, even on only a few hours sleep. i have never been so happy and am looking forward to all the little adventures to come.

there's always you who love more

sometimes, i think i'm selfish because i do things my way, i do not spare a thought for people's feelings and i do whatever i feel like just because i hate restrictions. i cannot promise anyone consistency because i cannot keep up with consistency myself. someday, somethings will change because change is the only constant in life. the thing about me is, i do something because i feel like it and most of the time, i don't really have concrete reasons to back certain things i do.

on a side note, it's early November. the irony is, without work, i find myself being busier but much much much much happier.

in 2 days' time, papa-goh is 62.
in 4 days' time, we'll be celebrating our 3rd year wedding anniversary.
in 5 days' time, junior is 2 weeks old.
in 10 days' time, i'm turning 28.
in 26 days' time, i'm confinement-free and junior is 1 month old!
in 10 weeks' time, its back to work for me :((

sense of guilt

after weeks of living with a breast pump without a life, i have decided to just let the milk supply die and enjoy the full glory of junior. no more uncomfortable pains, no more 24 hours spend in the room(!), best of all, junior is gaining weight.

4 weeks of jail time. i hate confinement and i have a confession to make: i bath everyday with my victoria's secret.

formulas

ang yew chye + angel goh = ang yu yan alexis
(A+) + (B+) = (AB+)

a lesson to learn

Switching to formula

Most mother who switch to formula in the early weeks do so with regret - 90 per cent of women who switch before six weeks would like to continue. This means they can feel guilty and defensive about switching.

If this applies to you, think about giving yourself a break. Feed your baby closely and responsively, just as you would with breastfeeding. Often, it's the intimacy that mothers miss when breastfeeding stops, for whatever reason. It needn't disappear. In fact, there's nothing to stop you holding your baby to your breast whenever you want to, even if you're no longer breastfeeding.

Guilt is the emotion we feel when we know we've done something deliberately wrong - this just doesn't apply to infant feeding, when parents work out what's likely to be best for them and their baby in their own particular circumstances.

If breastfeeding didn't work out well, understanding what happened can help, as can considering where you might get support if there's a next time with another baby.
all I know now is stressed mommy gives out stressed milk, and will produce a stressed baby.

i am constantly learning to be a mommy and i think i did the right thing.

a morning bunny

it took me 1 hour of pain, alot of grunting/cursing/screaming/howling before i decided on a shot of epidural. but i pretty much like (love) how my junior turns out. this will be my early 28th birthday present, for myself :))

p.s alexis is 2.805g with a height of 49cm and a head circumference of 32cm.

first glimpse of this world

i'm missing my tummy, missing my labour

everybody wants a life without pain. and what does it get you?
thanks to the inventor of epidural, i can still facebook and blog when my contractions reaches a high peak :)

当我们同在一起

从明天起, 我们是爸爸妈妈咯!
哈哈哈!

couple-ly breakfast

today, i had a good breakfast despite it being macdonalds sausage egg macmuffin but the hour spent talking about our feelings, my pregnancy journey, our plans for junior, and all that jazz just really feels different from the other breakfast that we always have.

oh, there's so many thoughts jutting about in my head right now. can't really string them up decently to construct sentences.

on a side note, you promise that you will not forsake the dumbos
and i am loving you for it! :)

showers of encouragement

in this life, i know i have a group of friends whom I can depend on for life.
cliché as it is, i can’t thank god enough, for everyone's blessing and encouragement :D

Tomorrow.

as i'm writing this, i'm 2 hours and 2 minutes away from 25th, getting ready for bed in awhile. i took a day off work today because dr adrian insisted that i go for a full growth scan as junior is too small. and it's unbelievable how much she is weighing now at 37 weeks and 2 days. to be exact, 2475g. might be even lesser in reality though. and because of this unbelievable fact, junior has to be out. dr adrian illustrates to darling dear and me that my womb is now like an oxygen-lack room, and we need to open the door to get fresh air.

so in about 9 hours, i gotta get up for preparation and roll along with the motherhood in life. i don't know, i am envious of people who really enjoy the delivery process and can't wait to get admitted. it's not that I'm not looking forward to carrying and playing with junior but i think i'm also loving where i am right now minus away the hip ache. ironically, all good things come to an end and now i'm on the journey to another terrific phase in my life. i'm going to ride through my tuesday and see junior on deepavali. everything will be good, I know.

goodnight, let me dream of something nice tonight.

Saturday, October 22, 2011

oct or nov baby?

brown discharge,
mummy-goh says its a sign that labour is going to start.
dr adrian says not to do anything.

is this a sign?

okie, will know it tonight.

hoping for the best

i had the worst thursday in weeks.

you know how thursday are to me.
anticipating start with happy ends.
for i know, there is no smile today.

how i wish time can be fastforwded, for the very first time.
pass me some macarons now, to take away my worries, to let junior gain weight.

8 meals a day is good for me

dr adrain asked, "baby very small, have you not been eating well?"
this question hit home, made me think, made me tear :((

anyway i am sent back to tmc for an urgent full growth scan on monday.

space needed

when i look at all these shoes, it just reminded me that junior will be a grown up girl in future. what mummy-goh says is right, we are going to fight for space in the shoe cabinet.

no, these tiny mini shoes aren't bought by me, they are given to her by our friends. well, good intentions can lead to great tragedy if not executed with the utmost care. LOL!

a weekend of art and craft

it took us 6 hours of work spread within 2 days, alot of discussion, cutting, pasting, & climbing to get it done but i pretty much like how the nursery looks now.

this will be her first present, from us.

Good or bad, hard to say

Once upon a time, there was a king. The king liked one of his followers very much because he was very wise and always gave very useful advice. Therefore the king took him along wherever he went.

One day, the king was bitten by a dog, his finger was injured and the wound was getting worse. He asked the follower if that was a bad sign. The follower said, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’.

In the end, the king’s finger got so bad it had to be amputated.

The king asked the follower again, if that was a bad sign.

Again, the follower gave the same answer, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’.

The king became very angry and sent the follower to prison.

One day, the king went hunting in the jungle. He got excited chasing a deer and deeper and deeper into the jungle he went. In the end he found himself lost and to make things worse, he got caught by the natives living in the jungle.

They wanted to sacrifice him to their God but when they noticed that the king was short of a finger, they released him immediately as he wasn’t a perfect specimen of a man and was therefore not a suitable sacrifice.

The king managed to get back to his palace and he finally understood the follower’s wise quote : ‘Good or bad, hard to say’ – If he hadn’t lost one finger, he would have lost his life to the natives.

He immediately ordered the release of his follower, and apologized to him.

But to the king’s amazement, the follower wasn’t mad at him at all. Instead he said,

‘It wasn’t a bad thing that you locked me up. Why? Because if you hadn’t, you would have brought me along to the jungle. If the natives found you unsuitable to be a sacrifice, they would’ve used me.”

Again, the quote ‘Good or bad, hard to say’ stands.

The moral of the story is that everything happens for a reason in this world. There is no absolute good or bad. Sometimes good things turn out to be bad things eventually, while bad things become a gain.

Whatever good that happens to you, enjoy it but don’t hold on too tight to it. Treat it as a surprise in your life.

Whatever bad that happens to you, don’t have to feel too sad or despair – in the end, it may not be a total bad thing.

If one can understand this, he or she will find life much easier

last month

8 months back, when i first knew about junior, i had bubbles in my head. each bubble contains a vision of what i would be doing in each trimester up till the day junior pops out. i had so many splendor thoughts about what i will be going through in the hospital but you know, those thoughts, they are just like air. honestly, i've never been too keen on injecting epidural or cesarean even though painless popping would be the happiest way out of everything. but now what do i have to worry as long as junior comes out safely in one healthy piece? :))

it's my turn, next.

today, I woke up, suddenly feeling a surge of excitement within me and i think i know why.

friend amelia aka ah-ma-lia finally gave birth to an adorable baby boy, xavier! :))

house warming

last night, i was at UE square residence sipping sparkling orange juice, eating heaps and laughing heartily with my family as though we were having reunion dinner. it's such a warm feeling and for a moment, i felt very lucky that the car accident which we got involved earlier on did not affect any of us.

there's many things i don't know but one thing i know, for sure, is that, the love of a family is life's greatest blessing.
at least, that's the kind of love i see in my family :)))

so keep on walking, mommy

my body is starting to malfunction. i get hip-aches often despite the massage darling dear gives me every night. and dunno since when, my left shoulder is strained. i don't know if i've overworked my body and legs yesterday by walking continuously in orchard and city hall or it's a sign that i will hold junior in my arms soon. either way, it's been really busy ever since i got preggy.

nevertheless, i finally got my hands on the cupcakes and the $69 worth combo set of . for junior, everything is just worth it :)))

my precious; our love

when there's only 36 more days left.

on most days, i'm all psyched and can't wait to get to delivery suite. can't wait to look forward, a different lifestyle, a 3-people world, and to hold junior in our hands.

on few days, i'm moping around with a damp heart. i think about the many things i'll be leaving behind. there's many things i would love to accomplish and i'll miss them all. but i know we'll love junior much more than anyone else and those things seem so secondary now.

unpacked hospital bag and confusion of what should be brought over. and you are right, having junior in my life is simple irreplaceable! ❤❤

on a side note, next gynae checkup is on the 20th. darling dear and i decided to have a date out as this will be our last 20th in our 2-people world. laugh out loud!

6 reasons why chocolate is good for you

1) a piece of chocolate a day keeps the doctor away
chocolate, especially dark chocolate, lowers high blood pressure. a German study found that eating a small sliver of dark chocolate can lower blood pressure without increasing weight or other health risks.

2) for brains that are fried and overused
a study showed that chocolate can boost your memory, attention span, reaction time and problem solving skills by increasing blood flow to the brain! rejoice all you students out there, we can now eat chocolate in peace and ace our exams!

3) chocolate has antioxidents!
it was published in a new medical journal “lancelot” that eating chocolate can prevent cancer and heart diseases. apparently dark chocolate has 4 times as much antioxidents compared to tea. so ditch the green tea and start gobbling chocolate!

4) bye bye dentists!
i hate visiting the dentist, the whirring sound of the cleaning equipment and the flash of the sharp tools against the harsh bright light sends chills down my spine. good news for people who have dental phobia, chocolate reduces tooth decay! perhaps one day, we all might be using chocolate listerine!

5) chocolate makes you happy – Don’t deny it
chocolate contains phenylephylamine, the same hormone the brain triggers when you fall in love. it makes you giggle, it makes you smile… need i say more?

6) chocolates can make ayc junior bigger
perhaps, this is the only main reason why i should think that chocolate is good for me. junior is weighing only 1.7kg at her 32 going 33 weeks. doctor says, "baby abit small...", so i am instructed to eat more chocolates.

So now angel, abandon your dieting plans and start munching on chocolate. it’s good for junior!

listen when your mother says...

When an elderly says... try to look at beautiful baby pictures during pregnancy so your baby will have good looks when he or she is born.

while the direct link between a pregnant mother’s exposure to beautiful baby pictures and the physical appearances of the baby is still unclear, doctors and researchers know that the emotional state of a mother can affect the wellbeing of the baby. so, in that way, pleasant surroundings may help improve pregnant mothers emotional wellbeing, and in turn, help them give birth to healthy, happy children.

anyway i look at them every night.
